I'm planning to get a Havanese puppy in a few months. Having always had huge dogs (Newfoundlands, Rottweilers, etc.), I am going the lap-dog route because I am getting older and can't lift the big huge dogs when they themselves get older and need help getting up off the floor or into the car. Knowing nothing about small dogs, I bought this book and have found it quite helpful in my education about this breed.Product details

Havanese eBook Diane Klumb Joanne Baldwin Reviews
Have a new 9 week old Havanese and so does my neighbor. This book is a must if you are trying to deal with the temperament of the unique Havanese. Thank you for your expertise. Very informative.
This book was super useful for making sure I had all the supplies I would need for my first Havanese. The grooming, feeding, and house breaking sections were the most useful parts for me, since I don't care that much about their history. The book was a bit shorter than I was expecting and I wish it had more info on training in general, but there are plenty of other good books that focus just on that. Overall this book was useful and the humorous writing made it an entertaining read.
DK is an expert on this breed. Wonderful dogs under 15 lbs and so affectionate.
This book is full of interesting and useful information about a wonderful breed of dog. The Havanese is definitely a breed apart and this book covers all of the points needed by an owner, or new owner, of this breed. The author gives excellent information on the temperment and quirks of this little ball of fluff. She also goes into a great deal on the health issues that can affect the Havanese. I would definitely reccomend this book to anyone interested in becoming the mommy or daddy of a Havanese!
Although I found this book informative and enjoyed learning so much about this breed, I found out afterward that Ms Klumb broke away from the Havanese Club of America and has tried to create a different breed name the Havenese Silk Dog. She has apparently created a rift within the breed culture and I was disappointed that she has not divulged this information as it has caused difficulty with the Havanese community. If I had known this, I would have found another author. I think she should be honest with the mess she has created. Especially to those of us who are new to the breed and the history.
I purchased this book to research this breed before purchasing a puppy. I am in the process of adding to my current pack of 4, none of which are Havanese. I have been trying to learn all i possibly could to be prepared, know what to expect, type of coat, grooming, characteristics of the breed. This is an excellent book. It tells you everything you need to know before purchasing this breed. The book covers food, food dishes, picking up your puppy, what to expect when you first bring it home, canine social behavior, nutrition, health, history of the breed; traits, coat type, toys and general information that is useful for any breed. The book is written so that it seems like a conversation with the author - not just the facts. It is an easy read & I have enjoyed reading.
This is the best overall book on the Havenese breed that I have found to date. The others that I have purchased I learned were of a new "cut and paste" variety of e-books – the author could just substitute in a new breed name and have a whole new book to sell.
That is clearly not the case here as the content is specific and relevant to the Havenese breed alone. It is a good general primer on Havenese ownership and I refer back to it constantly.
The book details the breed history and helps you avoid the health issues that can affect poorly bred Havenese.
